Here are a couple miscellaneous thoughts on retail in London and Paris. I was there last month to shop for fashion trends and will showcase what I saw in my webinar this week, but more thoughts keep coming to mind that I want to share.

More USA retail specialty stores pop up each season:
–Anthropologie was in the housewares dept at Selfridges, London.
–Club Monaco had a shop in Galleries Lafayette, Paris.

The large department stores in Europe continue to reconstruct, redesign their departments/floors, so the shopping experience is always fresh.

Selfridges: A brand new 2nd floor designer area; very beautiful with lots of open space and light. Huge shoe area. The high-end Italian restaurant at other end of 2nd floor has given way to pop up designer and contemporary shops…..they have specialty brands set up shop for a given time. 3rd floor denim and casual replaces the moderate sportswear floor (adjacent to kids).

A shift indicating the trend to home sewing and crafts . . . One whole wall and walkway in Bon Marche has been converted to a home sewing/notions/crafts area. It’s in their home furnishings area on 1st floor where custom drapes/cushion/pillows used to be.
