HOME TREND DIRECTION…….from the ICFF show
I covered this trade show at the Javitts Center in May and found it to be very inspirational and stimulating. Here are some of the trends I saw there that made impact. In addition to the points below, there was a “recycle-reuse-refurbish–think local” spirit in the air with great innovative product to delight all the senses. The young are in to it…..we need to be too.
The concept of dimension rather than texture takes us to a much more intriguing place. Flat plain surfaces are no longer interesting–we can design new product that are dimensional and create new dimension in the home….
…..By making what was traditionally flat now have curves and shape.
…..By adding decorative design to what was once only solid and plain
…..By letting the air and light through what was once solid and opaque
More dimension is created by using separate strips of material instead of one solid piece–a whole new design approach.
No longer flat slabs direct from nature, wood product is twisted, moulded, bent, and decorated!
PATTERN IN HOME
Home decor has revolved around a solid palette and an emphasis on materials….stone, metal, wood, fiber. We now look to create warmth, a new decorating aesthetic, and a means to create individual expression through print and pattern.
