3 Days of Inspiration in NYC

My head and mind are full, filled with lots and lots of new and good thoughts and
visual images–bursting really! I spent 3 days in NYC this month to do research for Fall 2012 trend direction, and came away with so much more. Here are just a few blips to share and I’ll embellish on them more later……

  • — Does packaging trend direction by season mean anything anymore? Should we evolve ideas i.o. putting them into a seasonal box?
  • — Retailers: are you ready to embrace a new model, take risks and truly service your customers?
  • — Design Options — the best colors I saw at a reasonable price. The service is simply done, offering tasteful colors and the option to buy ranges a la carte–did I say, “let’s get down to it!”? Womens, Mens, Home, Youth, Kids……check it out. www.design-options.com
  • — ICFF, The International Contemporary Furniture Fair/Javitts Center…..always a great venue for new and inspirational ideas and direction for home. Will share with you the ideas/products I liked best in an upcoming blog.

Am also thinking of putting together a quick webinar on the latest home furnishing info I’ve gathered…….anyone interested?

  • — Alexander McQueen “Savage Beauty” exhibit at the Met. Truly a must-see. A feast for the eye and for all the senses. Whether you like the clothes or not, the color, fabrics, exacting detail, the eye, the imagination and expression, the workmanship, the show. Fashion as an art form will never exist like that again.
  • — “Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay” at the Cooper Hewitt. I am overwhelmed by the sheer number of patterns and designs she created and produced. And, it all looks so modern and so right to me…..the geometrics, stripes, engineering, the easy loose silhouettes of the 20’s/30’s…….another expression of fashion as an art form.
