Note from Fran:
I will be going to London this week and then to Paris shopping for women’s apparel, accessories, and home. Can’t wait to see what the stores look like in Europe and what the emerging stories are!
Please join my webinars on Europe Retail, Spring 2011, where I’ll show you lots of photos and speak to the trends in color, new looks, and key items.
Sign up for information about this webinar or you can visit my website: www.franyoshioka.com
In the meantime, my next bog posts will be what I saw and loved the most in London and/or Paris…….so stay tuned!
Retail Report: Chicago
The big color explosion we know is on the way has not hit Chicago yet. On Valentines Day 2011, the assortments were more neutral and basic than colorful, and plenty of winter looks were still around.
OK, while it didn’t make for fun shopping, I wonder if this means real spring-like merchandise and presentations will truly hit in March and April when we, the customers, start thinking about spring…..as in spring cleaning, spring break, Easter, etc.?!
While nothing looked G-R-E-A-T, here’s a list of very clear incoming trends to work into our development for Summer 2011 onward.
70’s – I can no longer deny it, the way we looked then is the inspiration for all the newness to come. Mannequins were dressed 70’s style and I saw lots of heads wrapped with scarves.
Long – I’ve been loving long skirts now for over a year and I think we’re ready to embrace this trend. As you can see, the same put-togethers look new with the long skirt.
Multi Prints – A new energy emerges in the spirit of wearing prints. These items, more so than a new style will become the must-have statement pieces.
Woven Tops – From simple T’s and tanks to easy peasants, silky woven tops are the news. Shirt styles proliferate, from natural cotton and chambray shirts and tunics, to the all-important silky “equipment” pocketed shirt.
Crop Tops – While long lengths in tops are still the volume, incoming shorter crops that bare the midriff are gaining ground.
Easier Wider Pant – Slim is still the predominant look on the bottom, but we knew they had to start getting wider. Start adding the wider leg this summer and let’s see where it goes!
Zips Everywhere – What’s new is that zippers are being used in non-sportive, non-utility items as a key fashion detail. I saw the most feminine, sophisticated styles in silky and lightweight fabrics featuring the zip.
