Tufted Upholstery — (could it be because my father was an upholsterer by trade?!)
I love the updated looks in upholstered furniture — the color, the fabrics, and how the mix of modern and historic makes it all look contemporary. A key direction is the classic detail of tufting seen everywhere throughout the show. Solid sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, footstools, and benches took on dimension and charm with this one detail in leather, velvet, damask . . . it made you stop and take note.
Fur, Fur, and More Fur — (no, my uncle was not a furrier . . .)
Fur throws and fur pillows will be a must on everyone’s list. We know fur for Fall is a huge deal, and using it in the home in these items is a great way to add comfort and warmth in a fashionable way. They decorated all armchairs, sofas, and beds — casually slung over the back or arm. They were the fashion prop of the show, and I’d like to believe they were all faux and not real.
Pure White (No, we never had pure white anything . . .)
In fact, I have always been a texture, pattern, color person for the home. But, my eye kept going to all the wonderfully clean, serene, and contemporary pure white displays of everything. I can’t believe it, but I almost called out pure white leather!
I am so inspired by everything inspired by leather . . . leather colors, leather textures, finishes, and product. It was certainly a trend for the home, and took on a whole new attitude in pure white. Am I crazy??
But, I realized that beyond leather, I was taken by how simple shape and texture becomes so much more evident when color is taken out of the equation . . . maybe why black survives beyond any color.
